BIOSAND FILTERS

As the post-conflict era begins and people start to leave IDP camps to begin reconstructing their villages, they will leave the borehole wells they currently use and begin to use polluted groundwater sources. In order to maximize the availability of clean water, Connect Africa Resource Centers provide an additional water treatment solution that transforms collected rainwater and local streams into safe natural resources.

Connect Africa is partnering with the Center for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology, Thirst Relief International to introduce BioSand Water Filters to areas throughout Eastern Africa. Made of concrete, BioSand Water Filters are virtually indestructible, easy to use and maintain, and are made entirely from local materials so that filters can be manufactured, distributed, and utilized by local entrepreneurs. A single filter can produce 75 liters per day, or enough clean water for four families.
